Central Coast Tule Elk Hunting — Zone 15 Guide Service

This Is Our Backyard.

Frontera Hunting

Zone 15 is Central Coast elk country. The oak-studded ridges, brushy draws, and rolling grasslands of San Luis Obispo County hold some of the most huntable tule elk habitat in California and Frontera has guided hunters here longer than most outfitters have been in business.

When you draw a Central Coast tule elk tag, you’re not just getting lucky. You’re getting a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity in terrain we know better than anyone. We’ve had eyes on these bulls all year. We know where they water in August heat. We know which ridges they push to when the rut fires. By the time you arrive, the scouting is already done.

Why Private Land Matters in Zone 15

Public land tag holders in Zone 15 share terrain with every other hunter in the zone. We operate exclusively on private land so your hunt isn’t compromised by pushed elk or competing pressure.

Private access also solves the meat problem. A mature Central Coast bull in August heat demands speed. We carry the pack equipment, cooling capacity, and ground knowledge to get your animal handled properly within hours of harvest — not days.

Frequently Asked Questions — Zone 15 Central Coast

No, hiring a guide is not legally required for Zone 15 draw tag holders. But for most California hunters, this tag comes around once. Professional guiding on private land dramatically improves your odds of taking a trophy-class bull and our pre-season scouting means we already have the top animals located before you step off the truck.

Tule elk rut peaks earlier than Rocky Mountain elk which is typically late July through early September. Hunting the rut gives you a major advantage: bulls are vocal, reactive to calling, and more predictable in their movement. Zone 15’s summer temperatures mean solid meat recovery planning is essential, which Frontera handles on every hunt.

Bulls on our private Central Coast land typically score 275″–325″.
